For students enrolling in a SAO program from 2015 the following core(compulsory) and elective units for participants in the Masters, Graduate Diploma or Graduate Certificate programs are applicable.
- 3 astronomy core units (37.5 credit points)
- 1 elective unit (12.5 credit points)
from the list provided (below)
- 6 astronomy core units (75 credit points)
- 2 elective units (25 credit points)
from the list provided (below)
- 9 astronomy core units (112.5 credit points)
- 1 or 2 astronomy Major project options (either 12.5 or 25 credit points)
- elective units (either 25 or 12.5 credit points)

Graduate Certificate of Science
To qualify for the award of Graduate Certificate of Science (Astronomy) students must complete 4 units of study (50 credit points) as follows:
Graduate Diploma of Science
To qualify for the award of Graduate Diploma of Science (Astronomy) students must complete 8 units of study (100 credit points) as follows:
Master of Science
To qualify for the award of Master of Science (Astronomy) students must complete 12 units of study (150 credit points) as follows:
