Welcome to SAO
SAO has been running for over two decades and was one of the first online astronomy programs. In that time, many students have enjoyed online interactions with their classmates and the professional astronomers who teach in the program. Many partake in the program because they want to understand better how the Universe works, while others use their degree to further their careers. Several testimonials can be found on this website. SAO is undertaken by students with a broad range of ages and stages of their careers, including many retirees who now have the time to follow their passion. SAO offer a suite of packages consisting of 4, 8 and 12 Units of study, depending on how deep one wishes to explore.
A brief one-minute video embedded in this page may automatically play once loaded, or it may instead download to your computer. Dr Glen Mackie, the former long-running Director of SAO, hosts it.
Kind regards and welcome. Professor Alister Graham, Course Director (Semester 2, 2024).
