SAO Graduation Ceremonies

Swinburne University will send current information regarding enrolments.

    Graduation Dates:

Swinburne graduation ceremonies are usually held in late-March/early-April and August/September of each year. Graduations are organised by the Registrar's Department and all eligible students will be contacted by the university. (Note that international students can also graduate in December. However, the late release of the Semester 2 final grades means that international students will generally no longer be able to graduate in December if they completed their studies in Semester 2.)

SAO and the Centre for Astrophysics & Supercomputing (CAS) are within the School of Science, Computing and Engineering Technologies, so be sure to check the SCET (postgraduate) graduation ceremony dates.

Information on graduation ceremonies can be found within this portal here.

CAS astronomers don't usually attend the off-campus graduation ceremonies, but sometimes do.

    Locations:

When not banned due to the covid-19 pandemic, ceremonies are held at the Melbourne Convention Centre.

(Click here for a map and directions)

The Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing is spread across three disjoint buildings at the Hawthorn Campus of Swinburne, located in Glenferrie, a precinct of the suburb of Hawthorn. It is a 10 or 15 minute train ride form the CBD, depending on which CBD train station you use, and if it is the morning or the afternoon (the direction through the city train loop reverses shortly after noon).

    Public Transport:

For those of you from outside Melbourne, please note if you plan to travel by public transport (e.g., train, tram) you will need to buy a myki card (credit card size) and put money on the card prior to travelling. The system is quite unfriendly, especially to people visiting Melbourne on short stays (you can't pay for a fare on a tram or train at the time of travel). If you wish to avoid delays on the day please visit:

    Associated Activities:

Sometimes we are able to invite you and your guests to visit the Centre for Astrophysics and Supercomputing on the day of your graduation. However, due to the pandemic, and multiple lockdowns in Melbourne, this has not happened since 2019.
