Dr. Sarah Brough

My research is focussed on the questions of galaxy formation and evolution, from an observational perspective. I am particularly interested in examining how the mass of elliptical galaxies changes over time since this is predicted to be markedly different in models of galaxy formation and evolution, even though the age of the majority of stars is predicted to be similar. The environment of galaxy groups clearly plays an important role in determining galaxy properties and is the environment most galaxies in the Unvierse reside in, however it is understudied with respect to the significantly rarer cluster environment. I am therefore currently studying the properties of groups and their constituent galaxies.
