Dr. Meryl Waugh
Hello reader! I'm working with the Swinburne Astronomy Online team and will be here until the end of 2008 when Sarah and Virginia return.
Much to my surprise, I undertook a PhD in the Astrophysics Department of the University of Melbourne, finishing in 2005. My thesis, titled "Neutral Hydrogen in Fornax and Eridanus - Blind Basketweaving for Beginners", involved studies of the atomic hydrogen emission of cluster galaxies in the local universe. Yes, I spent lots of time at the radio telescopes at Parkes and Narrabri in NSW.
Prior to my late-onset postgraduate work in Astronomy, I had been occupied in various other fields, and since my original degree was in Biochemistry and Microbiology, particularly Virology, my interests must span at least 33 orders of magnitude!
