My research is primarily aimed at studying the growth of large scale structure - i.e., merging clusters of galaxies - and the effects of these violent events on the galaxies and gas within the clusters. Of particular interest in relation to cluster mergers are the newly detected cold front phenomenon seen in Chandra X-ray images of the cluster gas. I have compiled a sample of "cold front" clusters which are the subject of a comprehensive multi-wavelength follow up programme, primarily at optical (using multi-object spectroscopy) and radio wavelengths, which aims to relate the cold fronts to merger activity, to disentangle the merger dynamics and determine the effects of the merger on the galaxy population.
