Distance

  • Distance is a scalar quantity (compared with the vector quantity displacement) giving the magnitude of the measurement of how far apart two points are. In two-dimensional space, the distance $ D $ between two points $ x1,y1 $ and $ x2,y2 $ is given by the formula

    $ D = \sqrt $ $ (x2-x1)^2^ $ $ + (y2-y1)^2^ $
